Vehicle Maintenance Includes Tire and Wheel Care

Taking excellent care of your automobile includes making sure that your tires and wheels are in tiptop shape. RI Automotive advises that you can take care of your tires with our help. There are some things that you can do and there are some things that we can do to make sure that you always have plenty of tire tread and wheels that are balanced and aligned. Let’s talk more about tire maintenance and wheel care below. The better you take care of your tires the more life you get out of them.

Air Check

Check the air in your tires every two weeks to make sure that the proper PSI is in each tire. If any of the tires are low, including the spare, add air to the tire to get it back up to the recommended PSI. Driving on underinflated tires damages the tires from the inside and the outside. Don’t overinflate the tires, however, or you risk damaging them, as well.

Tire Inspection

Inspect your tires regularly to see if you notice that the tire tread is wearing down unevenly. If it is, bring your vehicle into our shop for a professional tire inspection. We can determine the reason why the tread isn’t wearing down the way it should. It’s also important to look at the sides of the tires to make sure they don’t show any signs of damage.

Tire Rotation

Plan to have your tires rotated every 6,000 miles to every 10,000 miles. Rotating the tires changes the pressure points on the tires to ensure that the tread doesn’t wear down unevenly. Tire rotations do not take long, so don’t worry about being stuck in the auto service shop for an extended period of time. We can get your tires rotated and you back on the road quickly.

Wheel Balance

While you are having the tires rotated, consider getting the wheels balanced, as well. This makes sure that the wheels stay steady the faster you drive. Unbalanced wheels will begin to wobble and vibrate as you pick up speed. This makes controlling your automobile difficult.

Wheel Alignment

Finally, if you knock your wheels out of alignment, your vehicle will pull to one side. You may also notice that the logo in the center of your steering wheel is crooked. It’s important to have your wheels aligned any time you knock them out of alignment and every two years.
