These Five Signs Indicate Your Car Needs a New Engine

Many people come to love their automobiles so much that they never want to get rid of them. We get that here at RI Automotive. We can rebuild or replace your engine if your car needs a new engine. Your automobile will give you definite signs that it’s time for a new engine. Let’s discuss these signs below.

1. Constant Overheating

If your car, truck, or utility vehicle is overheating all the time, it’s possible that you need to replace the engine. This is definitely the case if you replace the cooling system yet the engine is still overheating. One thing that will make the engine overheat all the time is a cracked engine block. Even if your engine block isn’t cracked, the constant overheating will eventually crack it.

2. Excessive Exhaust

Another sign that your engine has reached the end of its life is excessive exhaust smoke pouring out of the tailpipe. This is a symptom of a fluid hemorrhage in the engine. If the exhaust smoke is black, the engine is burning away a ton of fuel that is leaking from somewhere. If the exhaust smoke is blue or gray, you have oil that is being burned away. White exhaust smoke means the engine is burning coolant.

3. Knocking Sounds

Constant knocking sounds are another sign that your engine needs to be replaced. These sounds are usually caused by the pistons banging against the cylinder walls. This happens when the rod bearings are too loose. Another thing that will kill your engine is if one of the rods breaks. If this happens, you won’t be able to start your engine at all.

4. Little-to-No Power

Your engine may tell you that it is tired and it doesn’t want to run anymore. You will notice this when the engine produces little or no power. If there isn’t anything we can do to fix the power loss, it is definitely time to get an engine. Automobile engines are machines, and they will, eventually, run out of life. There’s nothing you can do to fix them.

5. Metal in the Oil

Finally, an old engine will start to disintegrate in the motor oil as it flows through it. You will end up with metal shavings in your motor oil and a dead engine within 30 minutes to a few hours. Much like the power loss discussed above, this is a problem that cannot be repaired.

RI Automotive in Tampa, FL, would be happy to inspect your automobile’s engine to see if it can be rebuilt. If it can’t, we can replace it.
