How to Build an Emergency Car Care Kit

Nobody wakes up expecting to be in an accident or have car trouble that day. These issues always happen when you least expect them and often when you really don’t have time for them. While RI Automotive can’t predict your next breakdown or prevent a fender bender, we can help make sure that you are prepared for an emergency situation. And in most cases, you can fit everything you need in the trunk of your vehicle. Use this checklist to build the ultimate emergency car care kit.

Jumper Cables

If you have never needed a set of jumper cables, consider yourself lucky. Most of us have dealt with the frustration of walking to our vehicle after a long day of work or running out to the car when we are already late only to find that the battery is dead.

Whatever caused your battery to drain, normally all it takes is a quick jumpstart for you to be on your way. And in these cases, it is always better to have your own set of jumper cables rather than hope that a passing stranger will have a good set.

Choose a set of jumper cables that is strong and long to make the process as easy as possible.

Flashlights

If you have a vehicle incident in the middle of the night, you will want a good flashlight so that you can stay safe and be able to see what is around you. Especially if you are on a more rural road with limited light.

Bottled Water and Snacks

When you break down or are in an accident, you never really know how long you are going to be there. It is important that you are able to stay calm as well as hydrated and fed. Keep a few bottles of water and non-perishable snacks in your vehicle so you can be prepared.

Road Flares or Traffic Triangles

It is important to always alert passing and oncoming drivers to your presence to avoid an even worse situation. Road flares and traffic triangles are the perfect way to do that. They alert other drivers and help prevent them from hitting you when you are already down.

First Aid Kit

A well-stocked first-aid kit is key. Make sure you have bandages, gauze, antiseptic wipes, and even vomit bags. This kit will come in handy even when you haven’t been in an accident, especially if you often have children in the car.

Chargers

It is hard to imagine that you don’t already have charging cords for your devices in your car, but it is important that you always be ready to call a tow truck, ambulance, or police. And that you have enough charge for when they call you back.

At RI Automotive in Tampa FL, we hope that you never have the need for an emergency car care kit, but if you do, follow this checklist and you will be ready.
