Starting Difficulties
Problems starting your diesel engine can be a sign that the glow plugs are no longer able to heat the combustion chamber to the ignition temperature. This can also be a sign that your diesel engine is overdue for much-needed maintenance. Even though a diesel engine will crank more than a gasoline engine will before it starts, you shouldn’t have problems firing up your automobile.
Poor Power
Diesel engines are known for their power, so poor power is a sign that there is something wrong. Generally, a lagging engine is not getting the fuel it needs. Your diesel engine’s fuel filter or fuel injectors may be clogged. A loose throttle linkage can also reduce a diesel engine’s power, as can excessive lubrication. We will find the problem, fix it, and restore your engine’s power.
Contaminated Fuel
One of the benefits of driving a diesel automobile is that diesel fuel is energy-dense. This means it produces more power per gallon than gasoline does. Unfortunately, the caveat is that diesel fuel is thicker than gasoline. This means it can easily become contaminated by soot, water, or glycol among other contaminants. If the fuel makes its way into the engine, it will damage it.
Excess Exhaust
You expect to see a little bit of exhaust coming out of your diesel automobile’s tailpipe. If you see a ton of exhaust, however, head straight to our shop. This is a sign that the diesel engine is burning too much fuel. Things that can cause this problem include a clogged air filter, a faulty fuel pump, a faulty turbocharger, or a broken EGR valve. We can restore your automobile’s normal exhaust flow.
Oxidized Oil
If you haven’t driven your diesel automobile in months, have it towed to our shop so we can check the fuel for contamination and change the oil. When a diesel automobile sets, the oil oxidizes. Oxidation means that there are tiny air bubbles in the oil. These bubbles develop over time and prevent the oil from being able to do its job of lubricating and protecting your automobile’s diesel engine.
